Stacks of Firewood
Daina Krumins' Notes:
In Sussex County Martins would heat his studio with a wood stove and would always have some wood drying at the back of his property. First he would chop it. Then he would stack it. Then do some paintings of the stacks in various seasons and light conditions and finally burn it in his stove. Then he would start all over again. The wood provided visual pleasure and warmth in the studio for Martins and also for visitors to his studio, including myself.
